The thing I love most about the Singapore advertising scene is that anything is possible. I can’t imagine anyplace else where a small, local and independent agency would be allowed pitch for, let alone win the entire image and recruitment campaign for The Army. But that’s exactly what I experienced back in 1995. Certainly nobody in the Singaporean ad industry expected us to win – but win we did. The TV commercials that follow are based around the ancient, Asian geomancy elements of Metal, Water and Fire/Earth. The idea was to show that The Army was the master of all these elements. I also had to put on my Sun Tzu hat and come up with a few lines of philosophy to start off each commercial. All three TVCs were shot over nine days in Singapore and post produced over 5 days in Australia. (No, I didn’t sleep much…) |
